Faculty Cellist, Pianist to Present Feb. 22 Recital

Two School of Music musicians – cellist Adriana La Rosa Ransom and pianist Maria Staeblein – will present a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Their performance is part of the Charles W. Bolen Faculty Recital Series.

A master’s and doctoral graduate of the University of Minnesota and a first-year faculty member at Illinois State, La Rosa Ransom has been the recipient of numerous awards, including winning top prizes at the WAMSO Young Artist Competition, the Naftzger Young Artist Competition, the Schubert Club Young Artist Competition, and the Thursday Musical Society Competition. She has performed with many orchestras and ensembles. La Rosa Ransom has her bachelor of music degree from the University of Missouri.

Staeblein, who came to Illinois State 2003, won first prize at the International Competition of the 33rd European Music Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, and also received prizes and awards at the Competition for Conservatories in Osnabrück, Germany, the Conservatory Competition in Hannover, Germany, and the International Piano Competition Citta di Senigallia, Italy. She holds the Konzertexamen from the Academy for Music and Theatre in Hannover, Germany. Staeblein has played numerous performances in Canada, the USA, Greece, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
