Ceramics, jewelry, paintings, lithographs and other works of art
created by Illinois State University School of Art students and faculty will
be available for sale at reasonable prices in the Center for the Visual Arts
and in Centennial East on Friday, Dec. 8. Proceeds from the sales benefit
the School of Art and the respective art programs.
The annual printmakers' sale and exhibition will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in room 127 in the Center for the Visual Arts. All sale items will be original artworks by Illinois State faculty, staff and students, and selected impressions from Normal Editions Workshop also will be on display for sale. Prices range from $2 to $50.
The ceramics program will sell works by students, faculty and alumni from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the "airport lounge," the hallway in Centennial East building just past Westhoff Theatre. Student-made jewelry also will be available for sale in the airport lounge.
The annual Glass House Holiday Art Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Glass House located at the northwest corner of Willow and Main streets in Normal. Glass sculpture and functional glass pieces created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty work, will be for sale. There will be glassblowing demonstrations throughout the day, one of the highlights of a visit to the Glass House.
The print sale will include a silent auction of three pieces. One is a framed, two-color, untitled lithograph by Professor Emeritus Harold Boyd, with a minimum bid of $150. The retail price of the unframed piece would be $300. The second piece is an unframed press painting titled "First Light" by Lori Niemtschk. The minimum bid is $100 and the piece has a retail price of $200.
The third item in the silent auction is a deluxe copy from the limited edition of the book "The Prints of John Himmelfarb: a Catalogue Raisonné 1967-2004." The book features color reproductions and selected documentation details of all the fine art prints produced by the well-known Chicago artist. A number of the prints in the book were printed by The School of Art's Normal Editions Workshop (N.E.W.). The minimum bid is $125 and the retail price of the book is $250. There also will be a raffle for "A Connection for December" by Richard Finch, a one-color lithograph matted with archival museum board. Raffle tickets are $1 and the piece is valued at $100.
