Area residents with choral singing experience can join the Illinois
State University Civic Chorale at its first rehearsal of the Fall semester
on Monday, Aug. 21. This year's performances will conclude with a European
concert tour.
The first rehearsal of the year will begin at 7:10 p.m. in room 212 of Cook Hall on campus. Singers at all talent levels and high school age and above are welcome and encouraged to participate. Singers with a score of Mendelssohn's "Elijah" are encouraged to bring it to the rehearsal. Other information on the Civic Chorale is available by calling Karyl Carlson, director of Choral Activities, at 438-2012.
This year's Civic Chorale performances begin Oct. 22, performing "Elijah" with the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra and the Concert Choir. On Dec. 3, the group will perform as part of the annual Music for the Holidays concerts. The Spring semester will include a performance of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9" with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. The Civic Chorale also will perform at the ISU Spring Choral Collage concert on April 29.
During the last two weeks of May, 2007, members of the Civic Chorale will accompany the ISU Concert Choir to Europe. The tour will include a concert at the Notre Dame Cathedral, a performance in the Dordogne region in France and then Barcelona, Spain.
Established as a town and gown organization, the Civic Chorale, numbering around 80 singers, combines the musical maturity of community singers with the youthful enthusiasm of college students. The result is a vibrant choral organization, which presents a repertoire of choral-orchestral literature that includes most of the major oratorios and concert masses.
