ISU Awards Doctorates

Illinois State University awarded the following August doctorates:

Francine Armenth-Brothers of Bloomington received her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. Her dissertation is titled "Design and Development of Modules for a Medical Terminology Electronic Textbook." The daughter of Dolores Armenth of Hobart, Ind., and wife of Thomas Brothers, Armenth-Brothers is an instructor at Heartland Community College. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Saint Joseph's College and her master's degree in sport psychology from Ball State University.

Vivien Mweene Chabalengula of Carbondale received her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. The title of her dissertation is "The Nature and Extent of Scientific Literacy Themes Coverage in Zambian High School Biology Curriculum." The daughter of Mary Chabalengula of Kafue, Zambia, and wife of Frackson Mumba of Carbonadale, Chabalengula is an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Zambia and her master's degree in biology education from the University of The Witwatersrand in South Africa.

Joseph Gentry of Normal received his Ph.D. in School Psychology. His dissertation is titled "Teacher Perceptions of Consultation Effectiveness: Evaluating the Impact of Gender, Directiveness, and Level of Consultee Experience." The son of Deb and David Gentry of Normal and husband of Sarah Gentry of Quincy, Mass., Gentry received a postdoctoral fellowship at The May Institute in Boston, Mass. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Illinois State.

Jana Lynn Hunzicker of Washington received her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. Her dissertation is titled "The Influence of the National Board Certification Experience on Teacher and Student Learning." The daughter of Lynn Molleck of Lafayette, La., and Lyle Hunzicker of Washington, Hunzicker received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's degree in educational administration from Bradley University.

Cindy Kohtz of Pekin received her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. The daughter of John Avery of Pekin and the late Loraine Avery and wife of Randy Kohtz of Pekin, Kohtz is a clinical assistant professor at Methodist College of Nursing. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Bradley University and her master's degree in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Kohtz is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society of Nursing.

Bill Link of Pekin received his Ed.D. in Educational Administration. The title of his dissertation is "Quality Management and School Improvement: A Comparative Analysis of Three Elementary Schools." The son of Rosalie and Bill Link of Gillespie and husband of Kelly Link of Pekin, Link is a principal in the Pekin Public Schools. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Illinois University and his master's degree in education from Illinois State.

Lucy Stevenson Loper of Lexington received her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. The title of her dissertation is "Integrating Non-Linear Writing and Multimedia: An Instructional Design." The wife of Ken Loper of Lexington, Loper is a teacher at El Paso Gridley Unit District 11. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State.

Jeff Ludwig of Bloomington received his Ph.D. in English Studies. His dissertation is titled "Identity and Flux: American Literary Modernism of the 20s and 30s." The son of Beverly and Gerald Ludwig of St. Charles, Minn., and husband of April Ludwig of Denver, Colo., Ludwig is a lecturer at the University of Denver. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from St. Cloud State University.

John Pate of Columbia, Mo. Received his Ed.D. in Educational Administration. His dissertation is titled "A Comparative Case Study of Leadership and the Integration of Technology into the Education Program." The son of Mrs. L.E. Pate of Columbia, Mo., and the late L.E. Pate. Pate is a superintendent at Riverview Grade School.

Nicole Wood of Metamora received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration. The title of her dissertation is "Principals Under Age 30: Factors Affecting the First Year Experience." The daughter of Vickie and Michael Couri of Washington, and wife of Scott Wood of Metamora, Wood is the principal of Northmoor-Edison Primary in Peoria. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary and early childhood education and her master's degree in educational administration from Eastern Illinois University. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi.
