ISU Adult Enrichment Fall Programs Scheduled

Illinois State University's Adult Enrichment Programs, which include Academy of Seniors and Mornings with the Professors, will start in August and continue through January. Co-sponsored by the Senior Professionals of Illinois State University and affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network, Academy of Seniors classes are mainly held at Conference Services in the Professional Development Building at 207 South Main in Normal, and Mornings with the Professors are held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Emerson and Towanda in Bloomington.

The Academy of Seniors sessions are $40, and the speakers and their topics include:

. Getting More Out of Your Digital Camera - Brian Braye - Aug. 22, 24, 29 & 31 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in room 22H in the College of Business building

. The American Civil War - Mark Plummer, ISU History Emeritus - Sept. 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Conference Services

. From the DaVinci Code to the Gospel of Judas - Rev. Richard Watts - Sept. 7, 14, 21 & 28 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Conference Services

. The Sexagenarian UN: Checkup, Diagnosis and Prescription for the 21st Century - Michaelene Cox, ISU Politics and Government - Oct. 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Conference Services

. First Amendment, Sword and Shield: Your Constitutional Rights, Are They Secure? - ISU Politics and Government Professor Robert Bradley, Judge James Knecht and Attorneys Robert Lenz and Donald Craven - Oct. 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Conference Services. This course will also offer an Oct. 2 optional bus trip to the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum (for more information, call (309) 438-2818).

The Mornings with the Professors are scheduled for Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and speakers and their topics include:

. Election ''06: The Hot Races and Key Issues - Robert Bradley, ISU Politics and Government - Oct. 6

. 35 Years of Bringing the World to Illinois State University - Marilyn Boyd, program coordinator of the ISU International House - Oct. 13

. Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Fact and Fiction - Bruce Criley, Illinois Wesleyan University Biology - Oct. 20

. Broadway, Tin Pan Alley, and Jazz: A Lecture/Recital - Charles Stokes and Lauren Saeger, ISU School of Music - Oct. 27

. How Does Popular Culture Shape How We Think and What We Believe? - Gary Olson, ISU Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences - Nov. 3

The cost for Mornings with the Professors is $40 for all five sessions or $15 for individual sessions and may be paid at the door.

This year's Winter Academy will offer two courses at $40 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Conference Services. The speakers and their topics include:

. Globalization: Impact on the World - Ky Ajayi, ISU Politics and Government - Nov. 7, 9, 14 & 16

. Climate Change and Global Warming: What Do We Know, How Do We Know It and So What? - James Carter, ISU Geography-Geology Emeritus - Jan. 23, 25 & 30 and Feb. 1
