Illinois State University Assistant Provost Charles McGuire has been named
the interim dean of the College of Business, President Al Bowman announced
Thursday. McGuire will replace Dixie Mills, who will retire in July after
more than 10 years as dean. A nationwide search for a permanent dean will
begin in January 2008. McGuire said he will not be a candidate for the
permanent position.
Before becoming assistant provost in July 2005, McGuire served as chair of the College’s Department of Finance, Insurance and Law for 17 years. He joined that department in 1980, and during his time as a faculty member his research, teaching and publications focused on the areas of insurance law, ethics and regulation. McGuire was instrumental in establishing the College’s Katie School of Insurance and Financial Services and the Institute for Insurance Ethics. He also played a key role in the planning of the new College of Business Building.
A recent nationwide search for a College of Business dean was halted, with plans to renew the search upon the appointment of a new provost and vice president for academic affairs. Provost John Presley announced in January that he will leave academic affairs in December 2007 and become a faculty member. The search process for his replacement has already begun.
