Moving does not have to be stressful
In conjunction with the Stevenson/Turner Hall Life Safety Project, many faculty, staff and departmental offices will be moving into temporary spaces as part of the Infrastructure Enhancement Project. While moving is disruptive and can be stressful, knowing the guidelines and keeping communication flowing will help alleviate concerns.
A comprehensive Illinois State University moving guide is available as a downloadable pdf file at Facilities Planning, and a printed copy has been provided to all of the move coordinators. Richard Runner, director of Facilities Planning, said the guide has helped the more than 40 percent of Illinois State departments and individuals who have moved in the past five years.
For the Turner Hall move, University Move Coordinator Michelle Kiesewetter has established regular meetings with the Turner move coordinators, Alan Lacy, College of Applied Science & Technology; Kate Plantholt, CAST IT Labs; Karen Stephens, Child Care Center; Libby Barna, Family & Consumer Sciences; Lori Fox, Technology; and Jim Evens, TEC IT Labs. Future meetings are scheduled for April 30, May 21 and June 11.
The move coordinators will assist in coordinating the logistics of moving 100 people and all necessary boxes and equipment from 98 offices, 26 classrooms/labs, 15 library/work rooms, a study area, the Child Care Center and four conference rooms. The Turner Hall move will start July 6 and continue through July 17, with individuals, departments, equipment and boxes moving to 10 different campus areas and one off-campus storage facility.
A contracted moving company will collect the furniture and equipment and deliver them to the designated locations. Faculty and staff will be responsible for packing boxes and labeling furniture and equipment. Move coordinators continue to receive pertinent information about labeling furniture, equipment and boxes at the regularly scheduled meetings. The tech support staff will be responsible for tagging and moving all computers and peripherals and then assembling them at the new locations. Kiesewetter has a detailed plan of both the existing room layouts for Turner Hall and is finalizing the temporary location room layouts that will be shared with move coordinators. Furniture will be in place at the temporary facilities prior to the move, and existing Turner Hall furniture will be stored at the off-campus storage facility.
Starting on June 15, furniture and equipment only will be moved back into Stevenson Hall’s basement and first and second floors from the off-campus storage facility. This will impact 60 faculty/staff offices, two departments and reception areas, 23 graduate assistant offices, three conference rooms, two library/work rooms, 24 classrooms, 20 computer labs and one lecture/seminar hall.
The Stevenson Hall move coordinators are Cindy Caldwell, Economics; Frank Beck, Stevenson Center; Dan Enomoto, CAS IT Labs; Sarah Walczynsi, CAS Computer Support/LILT; Irene Taylor, English; Angie Scott, English; Diane Brewer, Mathematics; Iris Baird, Philosophy; Peggy Haycraft, CAS; Sharon Griffin, LLC; Joaquin Vila-Ruiz-Technology Computer Labs; John Foster, Telecommunications; and Carla Birckelbaw, Computer Infrastructure Support Services.
Kiesewetter said she and Project Manager Bill Waters will be available for any questions or concerns during the move process and after. Kiesewetter may be reached at 438-7723 or mlkiese@ilstu.edu and Waters at 438-8582 or wwwater@ilstu.edu.
