Expanded Stevenson/Turner Hall renovation project

Photo of Stevenson HallSome Illinois State University faculty and staff will experience relocation this summer due to a new Stevenson and Turner Hall renovation plan, the Infrastructure Enhancement Project. The Stevenson and Turner Hall life safety work has expanded to include renovation of all restrooms, new windows and new exterior doors in both buildings. The enhancements will allow students, faculty and staff to look forward to improved facilities with modern plumbing and improved air quality and energy efficiency.

The $2.8 million project will necessitate a revised moving plan for College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) faculty and staff. The original plan was to move CAS faculty/staff back into the first and second floors of Stevenson Hall this summer as all of the life-safety work will be completed by June 19 and to move CAST faculty/staff into the vacated offices in Williams Hall. Since the majority of CAS faculty/staff will remain in their temporary Williams Hall home as the additional work is done in Stevenson Hall, Facilities Planning is arranging a move for the majority of CAST faculty/staff into two houses at 302 Normal Avenue and 305 N. School Street, the Bowling and Billiards Activity Room and leased modular facilities that will be located on Normal Avenue. The modular facilities will house approximately 27 faculty and staff members in private offices with handicapped access and restrooms.

Most of the moves will be accomplished by July 17 to allow the expanded Turner Hall project to begin. Furniture will be in place at all four temporary sites, and contract movers will be taking boxes to the designated sites. Facilities Management will prepare, maintain and clean the occupied facilities; and Telecommunications will provide the same level of data and telephone service that faculty/staff currently have in their permanent spaces.

In conjunction with the Stevenson/Turner renovations, Illinois State University is taking the opportwy to improve three spaces in the halls.

The Stevenson 250 suite has transitioned from a computer lab into more of a teaching environment, and the existing counter tops and seating are no longer appropriate for the general education classes being taught in the suite. The University will reconfigure nine former classrooms in the Stevenson 250 suite into seven new “smart” classrooms.

The Turner 100 classroom suite will incorporate two small classroom spaces into one large classroom for use by multiple departments, with a full complement of technology features.
